In reference to, "Afghanistan: What's next?" (March 21), in my opinion, our military forces should remain in that area as long as needed with no comments from Present Barack Obama as to a withdrawal date. He provided such a deadline in Iraq, which has left conditions there in a state of turmoil. It is quite evident when the president establishes such a date, it is done in his selfish interest of a political ploy; but unfortunately, instead, it is playing directly into the hands of our enemies,al-Qaida and the Taliban, who can then make their plans for defense and attack accordingly.
In order to remove the game of politics from this scene, may I respectfully suggest to President Obama that he simply announce, "Effective immediately our U.S. militaryforces shall remain in the Afghanistan and Pakistan as long as the unsettled conditions there warrant it."
