Those who oppose universal health care and also oppose a woman's right to choose display a logical disconnect. I can respect the opinoin of someone who says, "A pregnant woman must have the baby, and we as a country are willing to provide the necessary health care for both the mother and the child," or of someone who says, "A pregnant woman may decide whether or not she will have the baby, but she is on her own when it comes to health care."
I cannot respect someone who says "A pregnant woman must have the baby, but we are against providing necessary health care for them."
The issue before us today is whether we, the richest country in the world, believe that we should provide necessary health care for all our people or else allow millions to simply do without care because they cannot afford the fee. Right-to-life versus a woman's right to choose is a separate issue and should be settled separately.
