Little Traverse Civic Players elect directors
New board members include Mrs. Marguerite Beckley, Delmar Fineout, Miss Shirley Greenwell, Jack Perry, Howard Saar, Paul Smith, George "Gig" Stewart, Ross Stoakes Jr., Mrs. Ned Tanner and Tom Walenta.
Jack Perry presided at the meeting.
The theater group discussed possible sites for rehearsals and
productions. Plays considered include "Curious Savage," "Mr. Roberts, "Auntie Mame, "The Mouse That Roared" and "Arsenic and Old Lace."
Pellston records frosty low of 24
Temperatures dipped below freeing throughout much of Michigan during the night as a cold snap brought an abrupt end to several days of warm and humid weather. Pellston had an inch of snow according to Dick Johnson of North Central Airlines.
Pellston, as usual, took "honors" as the coldest spot in the state with a shivery 24.
Picks 384 in 90 minutes!
BOYNE CITY -- Tony Boris Jr., 19, Boyne City, picked 384 mushrooms in 90 minutes to win the fourth annual National Mushroom Hunt in Boyne City Saturday afternoon.
Boris, an employee of Courter Products in Boyne City, out-picked the 10 winners from the morning round of 116 contestants which included last year's champ, Merle Karlskin of Boyne City, who wound up third this year with 282 mushrooms.
Mrs. Robert (Irene) Mackie of Walloon Lake picked 354 for second place.
Picking in the morning was around Thunder Mountain, in the afternoon southeast of Walloon Junction.
In addition to trophies, winners received merchandise prizes. Boris won an outdoor barbeque, Mrs. Mackie and outdoor chaise lounge and chair and Karlskin a thermos jug.

Charlevoix woman on Detroit show
DETROIT -- Edith Gilbert of Charlevoix will appear with Cynthia Canty the Morning Break program on WKBD TV, Channel 50, at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 11.
Gilbert, who has written several books on entertaining, will discuss her latest book, "The Complete Wedding Planner." She also will demonstrate the right and wrong way to cut a wedding cake.
Steelhead lead in the News-Review Summer Fishing Contest belongs to Larry Slake of Buckley with a 13 pound, 13 ounce catch near the mouth of the Bear River in Petoskey.
