Class of 1962 reunion
An evening of reminiscing and renewal marked the event, held at Boyne Mountain's Avalanche Bay facility, Saturday, Sept. 15. It was attended by 27 members of the 67 member class, and featured a dinner buffet, program, class display, along with reflections of deceased classmates (19).
All agreed that more frequent attempts to gather as a class may be in our future, said Don. "If nothing else, seeing classmates you haven't crossed paths with in years, and in many cases not since we graduated, is a great antidote to the onset of dementia."
State championship grid team remembered
The reunion weekend started with a Friday afternoon fete of Boyne's 1961 state championship football team, coached by Paul Pfahler and Gerry Greer. Some 13 teammates from that team were introduced at a school wide pep rally held in the high school auditorium, then joined Boyne's current Rambler grid team on stage in celebration and a flurry of high fives in anticipation of the evening's game against Harbor Springs.
Boyne athletic director Mike Wilson and his staff organized the assembly, along with assistance from '61 team member Don Owen.
All of Boyne's fall sports teams, cheer leaders and band members, participated in the rousing event.
Representing the 25-member team were Chuck Vincent, Lawrence Thompson, Doug Grubbe, Steve Ward, Don Owen, John Hale, Larry Gunderson, Don Dunsmore, Tim Parrot, Bill Heireman, Kent Ruback, Fred Lehto and Gregg Smith.
