It never ceases to amaze me that the governor and the Legislature can always find ways to funnel money to businesses, but they can never figure out how to give a permanent annual raise to state employees.

We should not have medical marijuana. People can't drive as it is. I don't like driving on the roads now because of the idiots who drive. This would give them another reason to drive badly.

Gov. Scott gets elected and slashes the budgets for schools and teachers. Now he's up for re-election, and he wants to put $500 million back in the schools. When he gets re-elected, he'll go back to slashing.

Wonder why we have skyrocketing car-insurance rates in Florida? Ambulance-chasing attorneys parading clients on TV.

We mostly hear cries from Democrats that showing proper ID to vote is unfair. They have no problem getting the ID if it's necessary for welfare payments.

Val Demings, get radical. Support a whole penny school tax.

We can only hope that the new Federal Reserve chairwoman, Janet Yellen, will finally clean up the mess of our economy made by Paul Volcker, Alan Greenspan and Ben Bernanke.

CVS' decision to quit selling tobacco should be followed by other retailers.

The NRA's past solution to violent crime has been more available guns. Recent killings obviously mean there still aren't enough guns out there. Let's get busy.

The backlash over the Super Bowl ad where "America the Beautiful" is sung in many languages underscores the importance of a common language. We have to ensure that English remains our common language.

The GOP won't lose Hispanic votes over immigration reform; it just won't let Hispanics vote. Thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court for sending America back to the 1960s era of Jim Crow voting laws.

Editorial Poll

Andy Green, the opinion editor, has taken the "know a little bit about everything" approach in his time at The Sun. He was the city/state editor before coming to the editorial board, and prior to that he covered the State House and Baltimore County government.

Tricia Bishop, the deputy editorial page editor, was a reporter in the business and metro sections covering biotechnology, education and city and federal courts prior to joining the board.

Peter Jensen, former State House reporter and features writer, takes the lead on state government, transportation issues and the environment; he is the board's resident funny man and capital schmooze.

Glenn McNatt, who returned to editorial writing after serving as the newspaper's art critic, keeps an eye on the arts, culture, politics and the law for the editorial board.
