Urgent care facility opens at Maple Lawn Farms [Highland/Fulton]

Howard County Times

At Maple Lawn Farms in Fulton, you can find dining establishments, a pub, fast food joints, a grocery store, gas station, bank, fitness center, child care, day spa and auto repair shop.

Recently a new facility, the first of its type in Maple Lawn, opened up on Johns Hopkins Road next to the Chic-fil-A. It's called First Call Urgent Care and, unlike most urgent care facilities, it is also a regular group practice.

Nicole Hammert, a business manager for the facility, gave me a tour. The first floor is complete and open for business. In fact, the day that I visited, there were several patients waiting in the waiting room. A handful of others arrived during my interviews.

One of the physicians who practices there, Dr. Raj Dua, is a native Howard Countian from Ellicott City and was educated by the Howard County school system, so he's a local.

On site, there is a lab that can do the basics with a complete on-site lab due after the first of the year. There is an X-ray facility on the premises and the plan is to have a complete radiology department after the first of the year.

Once the second floor is complete, there will be offices for a dermatologist, physical therapy and chiropractic services. This facility is an expansion of the Centennial Medical Group in Elkridge. The same family physicians, internists and certified registered nurse practitioners that practice there also practice at the Maple Lawn facility.

I was impressed by the enthusiasm and the professionalism of the entire staff. The hours of operations are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can find them at 10981 Johns Hopkins Road, call 410-730-3399 or go to www.centennialmedical.com where you will find a link to the First Call facility.

The Lime Kiln Middle School students of the week for the week ending Nov. 6 were Imran Edris, Sydney Holton, Isabelle Choi, Haley Peristein, Adam Wong and Jake Power.

My wife Jennie and I want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. We hope that you will be able to take time to spend it with your family.
