After reading his commentary "No COLA for you" (May 26), I wonder, does Andrew Biggs go shopping, have to pay for health insurance, drive a car, heat and air condition his house, or does he live in a bubble and read in the newspaper that there is no inflation?

Over the last year and a half, I've seen my Medicare, supplemental insurance and prescription drug plans go up, and co-pays increased with them. My electric rate has increased, including hidden fees, about 90 percent. The price of gasoline is dropping only if compared to the $4 a gallon it went to. Cereal, ice cream, potato chips, yogurt, mayonnaise, bread, etc., all have decreased in size and increased in price.

If people on Medicare received a 5 percent increase last year, they shouldn't have to pay it back in 2010, 2011 and 2012. That increase was the first honest increase in years. Don't hurt the old people who worked hard and saved. They bought only what they could afford. Now people can't retire, don't get interest on their savings, and you want to take away their COLA on Medicare. Shame on you.Warren R. Schreiner, Linthicum Heights
