Large lot makes Reisterstown home stand out

Nearly 10,000-square-foot home on lot that is 20 times larger than its neighbors

A Reisterstown home that sold in September for $1.25 million stood out because of its large, wooded lot.

"Most of the properties in the area are on one acre or a portion of an acre," said Susan Hartman, the agent who sold the 10-year-old property. Hartman is with O'Conor & Mooney Realtors in Lutherville and sells residences across the state, she said.

But this five-bedroom home sits on a piece of land that is nearly 22 acres, making it one of the largest lots in the Beaverbrook subdivision. A forested area covers most of the acreage, which has a stream running through it and is ideal for hiking and enjoying nature, Hartman said.

The grand lot is not the property's only selling point. The home is filled with natural light and "showed almost like a model home" — even though a family of six lived there, Hartman said.

"Everyone who came through wanted [the owner's] furniture," she said. "It just showed really nicely."

At almost 10,000 square feet, the brick-faced home has five full baths and one half-bath. The finished walk-out basement includes a bedroom, bathroom and bar area.

"The basement in that house is just incredible. The back windows are totally above grade … especially families love to have that kind of space," Hartman said.

The double-door garage easily fitd three vehicles and a custom-built deck off the back of the main floor is made of durable ipe wood.

A final plus: Children living in the home would be assigned to good public schools. Although that ended up not being a major factor for the home's eventual buyers, Hartman said, "I always think that helps with resale value."

The house was on the market this summer for only 11 days before going under contract, she said. Multiple offers were made for the home, which sold for $30,000 above the list price of $1,220,000, said Hartman.

"We didn't have negative comments with this house," Hartman said. "We had very nice reactions."
