A recent story quoted a new study estimating the costs of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan may reach $6 trillion ("Modern wars' cost may hit $6 trillion in future," March 31).
Let us learn from this debacle. In the future, no president or Congress should be permitted to send U.S. combat troops into a foreign country unless Congress first passes a special tax to pay for the estimated costs of the conflict.
Moreover, every member of Congress who votes in favor of sending troops into combat must immediately enlist a son, grandson, daughter or grand-daughter between the ages of 18 and 26 to serve in the Army for the duration of the war.
