Yes, it is completely unfair that one breed of dog gets singled out ("End breed discrimination," Jan. 7). The media makes it look like pit bulls are the only breed to attack, bite, injure or be aggressive when that simply is not true.
Any dog can act that way, the only reason so many pit bulls are involved in such incidents is because so many are mistreated and there is such an overpopulation. Honestly, I fed into the media hype until I rescued two pit bulls. They are the sweetest, most loving dogs I have ever owned. They are great with children and great with visitors. But there is also no doubt in my mind that if they felt the need to protect my family, they would tear someone up. And that is how it should be.
It's a shame all of the good news stories about pits are hidden among the bad ones. And there are also so many stories told about a pit bull's behavior when the dog isn't a pit bull at all. That's the horrible thing — misinformation.
