On Sunday, Dec. 2, the citizens of Baltimore will enjoy The 40th Annual Mayor's Christmas Parade. It is also the last parade to be organized and directed by Tom Kerr, a Medfield resident who is retiring from the job.
I have known Tom for many years as a fellow church member, community leader, devoted father and husband, sincere Christian, and all-around nice guy. Few of us realize the extreme amount of effort, time, energy and organization required to pull off this parade each year, to say nothing of the pressure and worry involved in being sure everything flows without a hitch.
From fundraising to weather watching, Mr. Kerr juggles a hundred different hats to be sure that everything is perfect for this wonderful holiday event. His goal has always been the same year after year — to show the pride he has in his city and community, and to bring joy and happiness to countless thousands, particularly children.
Thank you, Tom, for a job extremely well done. You symbolize the best that America represents — a patriotic citizen, dedicated family man, and genuinely fine human being!
