Letter writer Thad Paulhamus claims that House Speaker John Boehner wants a compromise where President Barack Obama cedes 100 percent on the so-called fiscal cliff issue ("Boehner's version of compromise: You give 100 percent, I give nothing," Dec. 5). My perception is that Mr. Obama wants the Republicans to cave on taxes for the wealthy, and yet he hasn't promised any real spending cuts. By letting the Bush tax cuts expire, small business will be hurt considerably, and by raising the capital gains taxes, many middle class citizens who put their hard-earned savings in the stock market will be hurt financially. I'm actually furious that these politicians are gambling with our future, and that is my perception and my reality.
