Mandela a world-historical figure [Letter]

Your front-page story on Nelson Mandela's burial could easily have read "World hero laid to rest" ("S. Africa's hero laid to rest," Dec. 16).

Madiba, as he was known by many throughout the African continent, was a world figure. His smile will live on as over time his philosophy of forgiveness and reconciliation changes things.
