Government employment statistics lie [Letter]

The liberal media are not telling Americans the truth about the state of the country's economy. Over 70 percent of Americans believe the economy is still in bad shape, despite the stock market's comeback.

While the U.S. Department of Labor reports that the official government unemployment rate is around 7 percent, the real unemployment rate is well into double digits. The country has a record number of disability cases that are not being counted, as well as millions of people who have stopped looking for work and are not counted as unemployed.

While employment is near 30-year lows, federal spending on benefits such as food stamps and welfare have climbed to record levels. Private sector employment is still 1.5 million jobs short of the level in 2008.

But do you hear anything about this from the federal government or the left-wing media? Of course not.

All we hear from President Barack Obama is that he is for the middle class. Well, I consider myself middle class. I am a retired homeowner, so let's see how this pans out for me.
