Thanks to the Guard for protecting our freedoms

It was refreshing to read your recent article about the hard-working young men and women of the National guard who are soon to deploy soon to Afghanistan yet have made time for their community ("National Guard cleans up city block before deployment," June 16).

I applaud Lt. Col. Charles Blomquist and his staff for their hard work and devotion to our country. I want him and his entire guard unit to know that we appreciate all that they do so that we can enjoy the freedom to pursue our jobs and live in this great country.

We wish them all a speedy and healthy return.

The only issue that President Obama and I agree on is getting our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan. As a Vietnam veteran, I personally witnessed the killing fields of American soldiers when that corrupt government and its citizens did not want us in their country.
