Talk about it: City school violence
Discuss recent attacks on teachers in Baltimore City schools and what can be done to prevent them.
I really believe that it is the state's fault stating that parent's no longer have the right to discipline their children. Sorry that everyone else has to suffer because of this ,but you get what you ask for. If you were told you do not have to come to work ,and still get paid WOULD YOU

The problem is that the parents do not have basic human values, morals or civility. I drive along PA Ave and see the same behaviors demonstrated by adults on the street as I see in the halls and classrooms where I teach. A generation has these problems and haves passed it along. It will continue.

Christopher: Whether everyone has the same idea of what is "right" and "wrong" isn't the point... there is RIGHT, and there is WRONG. It's not a matter of opinion. As far as your other comment goes, WTF?

I also have to say that in the case of the two students who broke in to rape a teacher, if we would relax our sexual 'morality' (which isn't very moral), they probably wouldn't have tried to rape someone.

The problem with some of these people posting is that they are automatically assuming that everyone has the same ideas of 'right' and 'wrong'. That is not the case.

We hear the concept bandied about: "kids just being kids." Just what is acceptable behavior? Let's see tapes from the schools so we can see just what is allowed and considered acceptable. Why should we take the kids', teachers', or administration'-s word on what is going on.

Usually the Baltimore Sun is pointless and places all the blame on the school system. Finally, putting stress on the parents. Welcome to the 21st century Baltimore Sun.

How about the parents actually doing their jobs and teaching their children right from wrong. The parents are more to blame than the schools.

"the schools cannot be SOLELY responsible for teaching basic values . . "? Teachers and administrators must be thrilled that the Sun Editorial Board is letting them off the hook. The sentence implies that, although the schools are mainly responsible, they can't do it by themselves.

Some of us have been warning of this for decades. Thanks for finally coming on board. We are reaping what our new-age elites have sown in terms of wild-eyed social policies over the last two generations.
