Kathryn "Kay" Marshall, 76, of Bliss Township, died July 15, 2013, at the McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in Petoskey.
Kay was born on Dec. 3, 1936, in Bellaire, Ohio, the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Byard) Peiffer and was raised in Wheeling W.Va., graduating from Wheeling Central High School in 1955.
After high school, Kay went to work as a telephone operator in Wheeling and later in Washington, D.C.
While in Washington, she met Clark Marshall and on June 1, 1961, the two were married. They moved to Grand Rapids, Mich., and then to Flat Rock, Mich., where they lived for 36 years. In 2004, they moved to Bliss Township and have resided there since.
Kay loved nature, especially watching deer and birds, sewing, cooking and baking, going to the movies, and she loved to laugh. One of Kay's greatest joys in life was the time she spent with her family, and she cherished the time she spent with her granddaughter and great-grandchildren.
Kay is survived by her husband, Clark; a daughter, Lori (Perry) Kusnierz, of Flat Rock; four great-grandchildren, HeavenLee Simmons, Nadia Kusnierz, Trinity Kusnierz and Martin Simmons; two sisters, Joan Lee (Larry) Piko and Patricia Ryan; four sisters-in-law, Loralee Dankert, Maryellen Marshall, Valorie Dickson and Connie Marshall; two brothers-in-law, Nelson Marshall and Kent Marshall; and by many nieces and nephews.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents and by a granddaughter, Michelle Kusnierz.
The funeral service celebrating Kay's life will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at the Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey with the Rev. Francis Partridge officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Bliss Township Cemetery.
