The longtime Sykesville resident was 66.
The son of a surveyor and an educator, William Frank Luebberman was born in Annapolis and moved to Sykesville with his family when he was in junior high school.
After graduating from the old Sykesville High School in 1964, he earned an associate's degree from Catonsville Community College.
He joined the Baltimore County Fire Department in 1966, and during his career, worked at its training academy in Towson.
At the time of his retirement in 1994, he was a lieutenant assigned to the department's fire station in Randallstown.
The next year, he returned to work as ground manager for the Carroll County Volunteer Emergency Service Association in Westminster. He also was a member of the Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department.
He was also a part-time instructor at the University of Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute.
A NASCAR fan, Mr. Luebberman enjoyed riding motorcycles and playing his guitar.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Haight Funeral Home, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, the former Elizabeth "Libby" Stem; his parents, William E. and Betty Metzger Luebberman of Westminster; and a sister, Shelley Luebberman Steinle of Westminster.
