She was 76.
Mrs. Shearer worked for years as a medical administrator; at the time of her 1997 retirement, she was working for Dr. J. Dennis Branger at Greater Baltimore Medical Center.
The former Reisterstown resident, who had lived at Walker Manor Apartments for the past 20 years, was a licensed pilot.
For 12 years, Mrs. Shearer was a pilot for the search-and-rescue team of the Maryland Civil Air patrol. She retired in 1996 with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
From 1997 until 2009, she volunteered at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, where she was particularly interested in caring for its monkeys.
"The monkeys will miss the treats she prepared for them," said her daughter, Donna Shearer of Baltimore.
Mrs. Shearer enjoyed reading and traveling.
Her husband of 19 years, Donald Shearer, a financial administrator, died in 1970.
A private memorial service will be held in the fall.
Also surviving are two grandchildren and her companion, Leonard Gostomski of Dundalk.
