Marian J. Wallace, businesswoman

Marian J. Wallace, a retired businesswoman and former registered nurse, died Friday of Parkinson's disease at the Blakehurst retirement community in Towson. She was 92.

Marian Jones was born and raised near Hurlock and graduated from a Dorchester County high school.

She attended what is now Salisbury University before transferring to the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, where she earned her nursing degree in 1943. She also earned a bachelor's degree from the Johns Hopkins University in 1952.

Mrs. Wallace worked as a nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital and at Cornell Medical Center in New York City.

In 1949, she married Carl F. Wallace, who was the owner of William T. Lyons Co. Inc. and Lake Construction Co.

In 1980, she joined the companies as secretary and later was treasurer. After her husband's death in 1997, Mrs. Wallace became president, a position she held until retiring in 2005.

The former longtime North Homeland resident had lived at Blakehurst since 1997. Mrs. Wallace enjoyed flower gardening, needlepoint and reading. She also was a collector of china teacups.

She was a member of the Baltimore Country Club, Johns Hopkins Club and the Women's Eastern Shore Society.

Mrs. Wallace was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, 5407 N. Charles St., where a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Mrs. Wallace is survived by three daughters, Wendy E. Wallace of Reisterstown, Susan E. Wallace of Lutherville and Carol W. Noel of Rio Rancho, N.M.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
