Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Claudia and Lou Averella and grew up in Highlandtown. She attended Patterson High School and Strayer Business College before becoming a legal secretary.
She worked in downtown Baltimore for attorneys P. Paul Cocoros and Goodman Meagher & Enoch.
Family members said she enjoyed trips to Florida and Disney World. She also liked to dine out at area restaurants, watch movies, and spend time with her family.
"She loved little children and nothing could make her happier than making a child smile," said her son, Gaetano Averella of White Marsh. "She was very much a career woman and took pride in her work."
She was a member the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
In addition to her son, survivors include her mother, Claudia Averella of Lady Lake, Fla.; five brothers, Dana Averella of Mount Airy, Dale Averella of Hedgesville, W.Va., Robert Averella of Gettysburg, Pa., Louis Averella Jr. White Marsh and Nick Averella of Hampstead; two sisters, Brenda Combs of White Hall and LuAnn Spidell of Bel Air; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is being planned for the spring.
