The daughter of Olion Craig, a Bethlehem Steel Corp. steelworker, and Allie Mae Craig, a homemaker, the former Janet Maria Craig was born in Baltimore and raised in Turners Station.
Ms. Hamlett was a lifelong active member of Greater St. John Baptist Church in Turners Station, where she had been a member of the hospitality committee, a supporter of the church's youth ministry and a member of the trustee board.
"Janet was one of God's most committed servants and she held that commitment of faith until her death," the Rev. Glenn Darby, pastor of Greater St. John Baptist Church, said. "This is what she exemplified."
The longtime resident of Downey Dale Drive in Randallstown was married for 28 years to David Hamlett, an officer with the U.S. Capitol Police who died in 2006.
Funeral services for Ms. Hamlett will be held at 11 a.m. today at her church, 209 Walnut Ave.
She is survived by a brother, James E. Craig of Baltimore; five sisters, Evelyn Thomas of Forest Hill, Virginia Bowser, Helen Brown, Juanita Moody and Ruby Shaw, all of Baltimore; and many nieces and nephews.
