The Loch Raven resident was 74.
Mr. Jackson was born in Baltimore and raised in Franklin Square. After graduating from Frederick Douglass High School in 1955, he enlisted in the Air Force, from which he was honorably discharged in 1959.
A long-distance truck driver, Mr. Jackson retired in the 1980s.
In addition to his own church, Mr. Jackson, who was a keyboard player and singer, performed with the Baltimore Echoes, a gospel group. He also played at several other churches some of which included The House of God Church and St. Martin Church of Christ.
In his younger days, Mr. Jackson boxed and played football for the Baltimore Rams.
His wife of 30 years, the former Mary Downing, died last year.
Services for Mr. Jackson will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christian Love Baptist Church, 4198 Falls Road, Hampden.
Surviving are a son, Marcel D. Jackson of Baltimore; a daughter, Robin T. Jackson of Sandtown-Winchester; three stepsons, Carlos Debose, Vaughn Debose and Shawn Debose, all of Baltimore; Two brothers, Tyrone Cardwell of Pittsburgh and Aaron Cardwell of Oakdale, Pa.; a sister, Deane Dorsey of Pittsburgh; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. An earlier marriage to the former Katie Jones ended in divorce.
