Rev. Gary L. Scarborough, pastor of Ashton Baptist Church, dies

The Rev. Gary L. Scarborough, senior pastor of Ashton Baptist Church who also worked in medical sales, died Saturday at his Stevensville home from cancer . He was 65.

Gary Lewis Scarborough was the son of Robert D. Scarborough, a salesman, and Evelyn C. Scarborough, a Social Security Credit Union receptionist. He was born in Baltimore and raised in Randallstown.

After graduating from Woodlawn High School, he obtained a bachelor’s degree from Trinity College, then received a master’s degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., and a doctorate of ministry degree from Freedom Bible College & Seminary in Baltimore.

For the last 17 years, the Rev. Scarborough had been pastor of Ashton Baptist Church in Ashton, Montgomery County.

He also had worked for more than 25 years with his brother in medical sales for Innovative Medical Specialties.

The former Eldersburg resident, who moved to Stevensville last fall, was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed visiting the beach at Chincoteague, Va.

He also had been a professional musician and the front man for the band Trigger Happy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elders Baptist Church, 1216 Liberty Road, Sykesville.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, the former Theresa Garcia; two daughters, Lauren M. Bauer and Hannah L. Scarborough, both of Stevensville; his brother, Robert D. Scarborough Jr. of Eldersburg; a niece; and a nephew.
