Dr. Connall had been president of the Mental Health Association of Howard County and was a Red Cross crisis volunteer.

"She was also a strong advocate for adoption and adoption causes," said her husband of 36 years, Desmond D. Connall Jr., a Washington attorney.

Mr. Connall recalled meeting his future wife when she came down from Manhattanville College to attend a dance at Princeton University, where he was then an undergraduate.

"She was just a delightful and colorful person," he said.

A world traveler, Dr. Connall especially enjoyed going to the beach.

"Her favorite beach was Dewey Beach, Delaware," her husband said.

Dr. Connall was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Columbia.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Wilde Lake Interfaith Center, 10431 Twin Rivers Road, Columbia.

In addition to her husband, Dr. Connall is survived by two daughters, Kristin Connall of Washington and Caitlin Connall of Columbia; her father, Thomas Case of Columbia; and a brother, Dr. Christopher Case of London.
