Ellen Moser

Ellen Moser ( )

Ellen Frances Moser, a retired auto leasing executive assistant who later ran an insurance firm, died of cancer Dec. 25 at her Timonium home. She was 89.

Born Ellen Frances Wahl in Baltimore and raised in Overlea on Madeline Avenue, she was the daughter of Henry F. Wahl, a real estate and insurance broker, and Blanche Rever Wahl, a homemaker. A 1941 graduate of Kenwood High School, she sang in musical performances and was a member of the school glee club.

She started her career as a clerk for Glens Falls Insurance Co. on Light Street in downtown Baltimore and worked alongside her husband, Clarence A. Moser, in his insurance agency in downtown Baltimore and later on Padonia Road. After his death, she ran the business for several years.

She also joined Peterson, Howell & Heather and worked in auto and truck fleet management. She was an executive assistant at the vehicle leasing firm for 31 years until she retired nearly 25 years ago.

"She had a keen intellect and had a wonderful personality," said a nephew, Dr. Richard Moser of Hershey, Pa.

A Republican, she befriended Baltimore County Executive Spiro T. Agnew and his wife, Judy, while at Kiwanis Club functions. She went to the White House for lunch and attended the Agnew inauguration and ball in 1969.

Family members said the Agnews asked Mrs. Moser and her husband to greet and pick up Boston Pops conductor Arthur Fiedler at then-Friendship Airport. They met the musician and were later photographed with him at the inaugural, where they accompanied him.

She also sailed aboard Gov. J. Millard Tawes' yacht.

Mrs. Moser was a traveler and liked day trips and bus tours as well as visits to London and Paris.

A soprano, she sang in the Overlea Methodist Church choir for many years.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, 10 W. Padonia Road in Timonium.

Survivors include a sister, Justine Serra of Parkville; and nieces and nephews. Her husband of 48 years died in 1996.
