Efie Robert Barnett, a retired real estate agent, died Sunday of respiratory failure at her Timonium home. She was 79.
Efie Hadjiapostolou was born and raised in Athens, Greece, where she was also educated. She married Dr. Robert Barnett in Athens.
"She met my father when he was an Air Force physician stationed in Athens," said a son, Dr. Robert Barnett who lives in Westminster. "They married in 1958 and came to Baltimore. Because people in Greece do not have middle names, she gave herself the middle name of Robert after she came here."
Mrs. Barnett earned a real estate license and worked for Donald E. Grempler Realty Inc. for 25 years. She retired in 2000.
Mrs. Barnett, who enjoyed attending the opera in Baltimore and Washington, also liked traveling and playing tennis.
She was a longtime member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation.
Funeral services for Mrs. Barnett will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Greek Orthodox Cemetery Chapel, 5917 Windsor Mill Road, Woodlawn.
She is also survived by another son, George L. Barnett of Perry Hall; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her husband died in 1997.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
