Eau Claire, Wis.: Ila M. Jurgens, 90, of Eau Claire passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at her home.
She was born Sept. 21, 1920, in Edmunds County, SD, to William and Anna (Lundquist) Krueger. She grew up on a farm near Wetonka, SD. She graduated from Central High School in Aberdeen, SD, in 1938 and attended Aberdeen School of Commerce, then worked for Socony Oil.
She was married to Irvin (Jurg) Jurgens on Jan. 23, 1944, at the First Presbyterian Church in Aberdeen, SD. They had one daughter, Judy Lynn, who died earlier this year.
Ila was a former resident of Aberdeen, SD, and Minneapolis, MN, before moving to Eau Claire in 1966, where she was the office manager at Braatz Appliance. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Eau Claire, where she volunteered until the time of her death.
She will be remembered and cherished for her sense of humor, care of family, and her ability to make every day events special. Her home was a focal point of family celebrations. She kept her wit and mental agility to the very end, when she died peacefully at home.
Although she had no grandchildren, she was a much loved Auntie to many great nieces and nephews and an honorary grandmother and mother to many dear friends. She is survived by two nieces: Barbara Gallagher of Tucson, AZ, and Eileen (Jim) Zimmerman of Aberdeen; and four nephews: Gerald (Mary Ann) Krueger of Aberdeen, Rick (Diane) Jurgens of Berkley, CA, Dan (Vicki) Mack of Casper, WY, and David (Robin) Kirk, of Coon Rapids, MN.
She was preceded in death by her daughter; husband; parents; and siblings (two brothers and three sisters).
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church, 2112 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire, WI 54701, with Pastor Eric Nielsen officiating.
Friends may call from noon until the services on Friday at the church.
Interment will take place at a later date in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Aberdeen, SD.
