Gov. Larry Hogan announced Friday that he will introduce legislation to expand a tax break the state extends to retired first responders to include former correctional officers.
Hogan said during a two-day Western Maryland trip that the legislation “is good economic policy, but more importantly, it is the right thing to do.”
The measure would be an expansion of a bill Hogan proposed in this year’s legislative session.
It exempted retired police, fire and emergency response workers from state income taxes on part of their retirement income. The legislation would also expand the exemption to cover all retirement income.
