Joseph C. Bryce, the chief legislative officer for Gov. Martin O'Malley, is leaving his post to go to the lobbying firm Manis Canning & Associates.
Bryce has been instrumental to passing the governor's trickiest legislative packages, recently including a law legalizing same-sex marriage, the congressional redistricting map and a plan to limit sprawl.
He is well known and well respected around Annapolis, where he also worked as Gov. Parris Glendening's top legislative officer and as a top aide to Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller.
The move is another score for Manis Canning. Last year the firm scooped up John Favazza, the longtime aide to House Speaker Michael E. Busch.
Bryce has two children and is married to Kristin Jones, chief of staff to Busch. He graduated top of his class from Georgetown law school.
