Former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley will travel to Iowa on Saturday immediately after he is expected to announce his presidential campaign -- his third visit to the first-in-the-nation presidential nominating state this year.
The two-term governor is expected to announce in Baltimore on May 30 that he will seek the Democratic nomination for president, taking on the better known former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
O'Malley will announce his decision at at Federal Hill Park, using the city he led as mayor for two terms as his backdrop.
But O'Malley will waste no time jetting back to a state that is significantly more important than Maryland in the presidential calendar. He is scheduled to appear at an event in Davenport, Iowa, later that afternoon and then in Des Moines that evening, according to a report by the Associated Press.
