Despite rumors of an impending palace revolt, Republicans in the House of Delegates re-elected their top leaders without opposition as they prepared for the start of the 2013 session Wednesday.
The GOP caucus announced Tuesday that it had chosen Del. Anthony J. O'Donnell of Southern Maryland as minority leader and Del. Jeanne Haddaway-Riccio of the Middle Eastern Shore as minority whip.
O'Donnell, 51, has been GOP leader since 2007, while Haddaway-Riccio has been whip since 2011.
Late last year, there were rumblings that the leadership team could face a challenge from Republicans affiliated with the tea party wing of the GOP, but such a fight never materialized. The two were re-elected by acclamation.
“It was a great honor,” O’Donnell said. “It's a high compliment.”Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
