Dwyer admitted that he had a .2 blood alcohol level -- more than twice the legal limit -- when he was driving his boat Wednesday evening in the Magothy River. Dwyer's boat sank. Two adults and four children were hospitalized.
The lawmaker asked for forgiveness Thursday in a news conference after he was wheeled out of the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in a cast and neck brace.
House Republican Leader Del. Anthony O'Donnell did not return calls Thursday evening. Today's statement came from the GOP leadership.
"While we appreciate Delegate Dwyer’s frankness in his statements, we are troubled by these circumstances," according to the statement.
"We will refrain from any further comments on this ongoing investigation and allow the Department of Natural Resources officers to do their job as the legal process moves forward.”
