Seven ways the sequester could impact Maryland [Pictures]
Looming federal budget cuts make a whole lot of Marylanders nervous because a whole lot of Maryland depends on Uncle Sam for a paycheck -- directly or indirectly. According to the Census Bureau, D.C., Virginia and Alaska are the only states that receive more federal money per person than Maryland.
Job cuts at defense contractors
Some contractors have been pulling back for a while now. Bethesda-based defense contractor Lockheed Martin employs just fewer than 8,000 workers in Maryland, down from about 9,300 in 2008. Hundreds of Lockheed executives took buyouts in 2010. And Northrop Grumman's Linthicum-based electronic systems sector is into its third round of reductions in the past two years.

Federal spending in 2013 is estimated (by the CBO) to be about $3.6 TRILLION. That's over $9 BILLION a day. The sequester lops of $85 Billion in cuts.
Or about 9 days of spending. Spread throughout the government.
The effect on any particular agency, program, or defense will be MINISCULE.
There's a lot of people crying wolf and the media is going right along with them.
How about sequestering the entire Congress until they get their heads out of their butts and actually do something that is good for We The People?
These cuts can and will be shifted by the administration. They are doing what Schaefer did while Mayor- he would say Fire and police will be cut just to scare people and for political effect. This is BS while surely the bloated and obscene military budget can be cut even more. When the US military budget is higher than 14 of the largest countries combined you have to say something is wrong. Let's stop playing world policeman- we can not afford it!!!
