Less funds for research

The White House released a long list of federal agencies and programs that would be affected by the cuts. By far, the single largest cut will be to the budget of the National Institutes of Health, which would lose almost $2.5 billion. The administration said the Bethesda-based NIH "would be forced to delay or halt vital scientific projects and make hundreds of fewer research awards," leading to possible job losses for "several thousand personnel."
