Opponents of putting slot machines near a popular mall in Anne Arundel County have more than half the signatures they need to put a zoning measure on the ballot in an effort to halt the proposal. The Anne Arundel County Board of Elections is updating the verified numbers of voter signatures each day on its Web site. On Thursday, the number of accepted signatures reached 11,719. That's more than half of the 18,790 needed to bring the matter before voters in November. Opponents will have until March 8 to submit more signatures from county voters. Out of 29,680 signature lines submitted earlier this month, 20,870 have been processed. Local officials approved a zoning ordinance in December that was needed for the Cordish Co. to build a slot machine facility with 4,750 video lottery terminals near Arundel Mills mall.
