News Maryland Sun Investigates

State properties sent to tax sale

Baltimore City authorities auctioned liens on Camden Yards and M&T Bank Stadium to investors at the annual tax sale – a move officials said was a mistake because the stadiums are owned by the state. The Baltimore Sun discovered at least five more state properties that were included in the auction. The errors have drawn new attention to the already controversial process that the city uses to try to recover unpaid debts. Advocates for the poor say they can lose their homes over small debts.
