News Maryland Sun Investigates

Baltimore City evictions April to October 2016

Baltimore has one of the highest rates of eviction in the country. Mapped below are nearly 4,500 evictions in the city from April 1 to Oct. 31 last year. Darker dots indicate multiple evictions at the same address.

In the Census Bureau’s most recent American Housing Survey, in 2013, Baltimore’s renters received more court-ordered eviction notices per capita than any other city surveyed. More than 67,000 notices that year led to more than 6,600 evictions.

Since then, Baltimore District Court has issued nearly 215,000 more eviction orders and approved 21,000 formal evictions.
