MPSSAA baseball, softball seedings released

The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association released the baseball and softball playoff brackets on May 9, and three Howard County teams earned No. 1 seeds.

Reservoir is the lone baseball team to earn a No. 1 seed. The Gators have a first-round by in 3A East, Section I.

River Hill is the No. 2 seed and will host No. 7 Wilde Lake, while No. 3 Glenelg will host No. 6 Centennial in the opening round set for May 11. No. 4 Mt. Hebron will see No. 5 Long Reach at home.

Atholton is the No. 4 seed in Section II and will host No. 5 Hammond.

County champions Marriotts Ridge has the No. 2 seed in 2A West, Section II behind Century and has a first-round bye. Oakland Mills is the No. 6 seed and will travel to Liberty May 11.

Howard is the No. 2 seed in 4A North, Section II behind Sherwood and also has a first-round bye.

Second-round games are set for May 13 and sectional finals are on May 16. Regional finals are May 19; state semifinals May 23; and state championship games May 26 or 27.

In softball, Glenelg earned a No. 1 seed and has a first-round by in 3A East, Section I while Marriotts Ridge has the top spot in 2A West, Section II.

Centennial is the No. 2 seed in 3A East, Section I and will host No. 7 Wilde Lake, while No. 3 Reservoir will host No. 6 Long Reach in the opening round set for May 11. No. 4 River Hill will see No. 5 Mt. Hebron at home.

Hammond is the No. 4 seed in Section II and will host Stephen Decatur, while Atholton is the No. 6 and will travel to J.M. Bennett.

The Mustangs have a first-round bye in their region while Oakland Mills is the No. 7 seed and will face South Carroll on May 11.

Co-county champions Howard is the No. 2 seed in 4A North, Section II behind defending state champions Sherwood and also has a first-round bye.

Second-round games are set for May 15 and sectional finals are on May 17. Regional finals are May 19; state semifinals May 23; and state championship games May 26 or 27.
