Mt. Hebron girls basketball holds off Centennial, 40-36

For the first time since December, Mt. Hebron’s girls basketball team has itself a winning streak.

On Saturday night, in the first match-up of a Howard County Women’s Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony double header, the Vikings prevailed down the stretch for a 40-36 victory over Centennial. Meredith Williams, who finished with a game-high 13 points, scored nine of Mt. Hebron’s 14 fourth-quarter points to seal the win.

As a team, the Vikings went 9-11 from the foul line in the second half.

Eve Chase and Tori Valentine also chipped in with eight points apiece in the victory.

Brook Anderson and Mary Grace Lambert led the way with eight points apiece in the loss for Centennial, which had defeated Mt. Hebron by 21 points in their meeting earlier this season.

Less than 24 hours after losing for the first time in a month at the hands of Howard, the Gators got right back to their winning ways in a non-county game. Emily Dorn (17 points, 12 rebounds, 5 blocks and 3 steals), Nia Powell (14 points, 14 rebounds and 3 steals) and Kate Abunassar (10 points, 3 assists) all had big games in the victory.

Reservoir opened up a 32-14 lead by halftime and never looked back.

Re (8-4, 11-7): Dorn 17, Powell 14, Abunassar 10, Clark 6, Fourney 4, Bailey 4, Verna 3.

T: Brooks 14, Stewart 7, Allmond 7, Ambush 5, Rudd 3, Waters 2.

Oakland Mills 69, Hammond 49 (Friday)

The Scorpions jumped ahead with a 23-point first quarter and never lost the lead after that. Marley Grenway led the way with 28 points, 7 rebounds, 7 steals and 5 blocked shots. Aislyn Riggs (13 points, 13 rebounds) and Jazmine Washington (11 points, 9 assists) also had big games in the victory.

OM (7-5, 11-7): Grenway 28, Riggs 13, Washington 11, Eldridge 9, Miranda 5, Brown 2, Lightfoot 1.

Ha (2-10, 5-10): Lindsay 16, McInerney 13, Reid 8, Allen 7, Burns 3, Clark 2.
