Howard County sports reporters Monica D'Ippolito, Brent Kennedy and Tim Schwartz recap the week that was and the week ahead for Howard County high school athletics.
In the intro, Brent, Monica and Tim talk about how it’s been the year of upsets so far.
At the 2:26 mark, Monica talks about girls soccer, including the River Hill-Centennial game, how it’s been an up and down season for a bunch of teams so far, and Atholton potentially starting to create some separation in the standings.
At the 5:30 mark, Brent talks about the unpredictability of the boys soccer season where every team has at least one loss, Centennial’s recent run and River Hill coming up big.
At the 6:24 mark, Tim talks about football, including Atholton’s big win over Reservoir, Wilde Lake handing Glenelg its first loss of the season, and he previews the Oakland Mills-Long Reach game coming up Friday night.
River Hill golfer Derek Gold joins Brent for a segment at the 13:09 mark, where they talk about his season so far, trying to get over the hump in terms of reaching the regional and state tournaments, how baseball and golf relate, what it was like to break the school record, and what he expects, as the defending county champion, from the county tournament coming up on Tuesday. Derek also asks Brent what school he thinks has the best atmosphere.
River Hill athletic and activities manager Brandon Lauer joins Brent and Tim for a segment starting at the 23:27 mark. They talks about his growth from student to teacher and coach to athletic director all at the same school, the biggest differences between being a coach and administrator, his take on how other schools view River Hill.
Brandon also gives a quick preview on the wrestling season and teams to watch at the 30:40 mark, and whom he thinks will be the top wrestlers in the county this winter (Kyle Farace and Jason Kraisser). Then he also turns the tables and asks Brent and Tim how they stay fair and balanced when reporting on the same teams or a particular upset.
Find out where Brent, Monica and Tim will be the rest of this week at the 40:30 mark.
