Atholton, Hammond boys basketball wrap-up regular season with wins

Atholton boys basketball beats Mt. Hebron, while Hammond cruises past Marriotts Ridge in final playoff tune-up

While the final day to play regular season games in regards to having an impact on playoff seeding was Monday, there were four Howard County teams that still had some unfinished business to take care of on Tuesday in terms of wrapping up postponed contests from earlier this winter.

Hammond — a 71-45 winner over Marriotts Ridge — and Atholton — which edged Mt. Hebron 44-43 — each took advantage of the final tune-up before playoffs.

For Hammond (17-2 county, 19-3), the victory secured the team its 11th straight win against county opponents.

Atholton (8-11, 11-11), meanwhile, picked up its second straight win to close out the regular season. The Raiders, led by Alex Myers’ 12 points, won a low-scoring affair that saw them trailing at the half by two.

Hammond is seeded second in Section II of the 3A East regional playoffs and has received an opening-round bye. Atholton, also in Section II of 3A East, will play host to J.M. Bennett on Friday.

MH (6-13, 9-13): Schroeder 10, Linsenmeyer 8, Horton 6, Shriver 5, Johnson 4, Pearce 4, Prox 2, Dickerson 2, Lawson 2.

Half: 23-21 MH.
