Marriotts Ridge — No. 5 seed (2A South, Section I)

Record: 4-12 county, 9-14 overall

Best case: Behind junior forward Brandon Held, who emerges as a first-team All-County candidate with a few monster performances, Marriotts Ridge leaves its current five-game losing streak far in the past and strings together a couple of victories. First it avenges its regular season loss to Wilde Lake, and then, after two close defeats to River Hill earlier in the year, shocks the Hawks by making shot after shot down the stretch. But the run doesn't stop there. The Mustangs channel their frustration from their ugly loss to Oakland Mills in the regular season finale, a game in which they were up 18 points with three minutes left in the third quarter, and down the Scorpions on their home floor. Their magic finally runs out in the 2A South final against either Southern or Thomas Stone, but the young group shows its pontential as a county contender next season.
