West Friendship's Station 3 Tower 3 Truck was awarded a Third Place "Best Appearing Elevated Platform" as part of the parade competition. Another trophy to add to the collection at Station 3. We in the community owe a great debt to the remarkable men and women of Station 3.

Carol Hill and fellow volunteers at Highland's Mt. Zion United Methodist Church are excited to open the doors on July 20 for the church's latest outreach endeavor. The Open Doors Food Pantry plans to operate the third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In mid July, volunteers hosted a food drive in order to stock up for the first open door session. Folks in need are always welcome at Mt. Zion, according to Carol.

The Howard County Farmers Market at Glenwood is open on July 20, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Vendors for the market are happy to align themselves with National Culinary Arts month, offering up fresh fruits and vegetables as part of the farm to table celebration during July in Howard County.

Further culinary expertise is to be doled out at the Glenwood branch library on July 25, when a program titled, "The Farmers Market Chef: Heirlooms in Your Garden" is set for 7 p.m. Register in person at the library or by calling 410-313-5577.

Saturday night at the movies — what could be better? The community is invited out to the Shrine of St. Anthony on July 20 at 8:30 p.m., for a family movie night. The beautiful grounds of the shrine is the outdoor setting for a screening of "The Prince of Egypt". This film is rated PG.

Moviegoers are invited to come to the Red Barn, at 12290 Folly Quarter Road, for a "free offering" admission. Bring chairs, blankets, lawn quilts and bug spray if you have a mind to. Popcorn and movie snacks will be available for purchase.

Just a few events brewing at the Howard County Fairgrounds in West Friendship prior to the set up for the Howard County Fair. Amateur radio enthusiasts are invited to the fairgrounds on July 21, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., for the Baltimore Radio Amateur Television Society "Hamfest and Computerfest". Items will be for sale. The Howard County Agricultural Land Preservation Board seeks new members. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and able to attend the board's meetings, which are held the fourth Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Howard County fairgrounds in West Friendship.
