Ooky, kooky 'Addams Family' heads to Glenelg High [West Friendship]

Who needs Broadway? The Columbia Center for Theatrical Arts' big, splashy, colorful summer production of "The Addams Family" is set for July 24-27 at Glenelg High School Auditorium.

A free family music session is set for July 17, 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Turf Valley Town Square when Arty Hill and the Long Gone Daddies perform during an outdoor concert. Modern honky tonk for the whole family.

Calling all ham radio afficionados. The annual Baltimore Radio Amateur Television Society comes to the Howard Country Fairgrounds in West Friendship on July 20, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Vendors galore for this computer and ham radio fest. More than 300 vendors selling electronics and more. A wide range of ham radio and computer equipment will be offered, including Amateur Radio transmitters, receivers, and antennas; personal computers; printers, modems, disk drives, and other peripherals as well as surplus military and commercial electronics, test equipment, and a diverse assortment of radio and computer parts, supplies, and accessories.

Amateur Radio License Exams will be given at 9 a.m. only with check in at 8:30 a.m. Pre-registration is required. To pre-register, call John Creel at 301- 572-5124 after 6 p.m. or email wb3GXW@arrl.net. Admission is $6. Kids under age 12 are not charged admission.

Jason Bostron, Glenelg Class of 2002 and his wife Daisy Phillips continue their "Philtron's Pedal South" journey where the duo are biking from Alaska to Argentina. Updates on the blog show scenery beyond compare. Wild flowers, spectacular vistas and notes from Skagway, Alaska, to Watson Lake ,Yukon.

A June 26 post shouts, "Completed the Cassiar and hit 2000 miles". The Cassiar is a highway in British Columbia. Jason and Daisy have encountered all manner of wildlife and natural beauty. A highlight in the photo section of the blog is a night view of totems in the historic area of Hazleton. More news coming from the duo as they bike all the way to Argentina. Don't forget. Kids ages 2-5 are invited to join in free early enrichment sessions at Glenelg Country School. "Take Me Out to the Ocean" is set for July 29, 10-11 a.m. The morning activity includes exposure to new stories, language and technology, games and friends. Mark your calendar for July 24 ,6-8 p.m., when the monthly St. Andrew's dinner will be cooked up by the folks at Smokin' Hot Grille. Dine in or carry out. Cost is $9 per person or $30 per family , no matter how many folks make up the family unit. Proceeds from the July dinner benefit a reading camp for at-risk children in Baltimore City.
