West Friendship Elementary aims to be word perfect [West Friendship]

West Friendship Elementary fourth and fifth graders are practicing their vocabulary lists. The students are participating in the Scripps National Spelling Bee competition at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 16 during the first round of the famed competition.

West Friendship Elementary families will glide through the weekend in anticipation of the annual Family Skate Party on Jan. 19, 5:30 to 8 p.m.

This annual event is one in which students see their teachers skating like Olympians and watch their parents nimbly glissade in ways which make their children say, "Wow." The slippin' and slidin' action is at the Odenton Skate Center.

Just a reminder. Over at the Shrine of St. Anthony, Brother Gerry Seipp is welcoming the public to enjoy his outstanding and huge holiday train garden.

Brother Gerry loves trains and has been collecting since his boyhood days in Baltimore. The train garden set up will be in place and open for viewing from 3 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 19 and 26. The Shrine of St. Anthony is at 12290 Folly Quarter Road.

The annual Howard County Motorcycle Swap Meet is set for Jan. 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Howard County fairgrounds in West Friendship. This is the place to be for sale and purchase of motorcycle parts, bikes, accessories and all the socialization associated with an old fashioned swap meet. As the organizers describe it, "A blast from the past". Questions? Call Ken Appel at 301-478-3421
