Local schools announce orientation meetings

Pull out the backpacks and double-check the school supply lists; student orientations begin next week!

Marriotts Ridge High School will hold its New Student Orientation on Thursday, Aug. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This session is geared toward incoming freshmen and students who are new to the MRHS community.

The school will also hold Safe Driving Presentations on Tuesday, Aug. 26 and Tuesday, Sep. 9, 6-7:30 p.m. All students who plan to drive to school must attend a session at either MRHS or another high school.

Lastly, student athletes and their parents should mark their calendars for the Fall Sportsmanship Meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 7-8 p.m.

Mt. View Middle School invites incoming sixth graders and new seventh and eighth graders to attend New Student Orientation on Thursday, Aug. 21, at 12:30 p.m. Students will have an opportunity to tour the school, meet their teachers, and receive their schedules and locker information while parents attend an informational session in the cafeteria. Students who cannot make the orientation will receive their schedules and lockers on the first day of school.

At Waverly Elementary School, New Family Orientation will begin at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20. Additionally, preschool orientation will take place on Friday, Aug. 22, at 10 a.m. for morning students and 1:30 p.m. for afternoon students. Returning students may visit the school at 2:30 p.m. that same day for a Sneak Peek Open House.

Finally, West Friendship Elementary School has scheduled a Kindergarten Parent Orientation on Thursday, Aug. 21, from 3 to 4 p.m. and a Student/Parent Open House on Friday, Aug. 22 from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m.

Sandi Hawkins, a member of the West Friendship Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, would like to alert the community about two upcoming events. The first is a supply drive-in support of the food pantry at West Liberty United Methodist Church. Please drop off donations of paper towels, toilet paper and small sizes of liquid laundry detergent between now and Wednesday, Sept. 10.

The auxiliary is also hosting its annual fall yard sale on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you would like to reserve a space to sell your items, go to http://www.wfvfd.org for an application.
