Our schools do a great job of offering cultural events to the community, including Jazz at the Ridge every spring at Marriotts Ridge High School. This year's concert, on Friday, April 4, at 7 p.m., will feature Marriotts Ridge jazz ensembles and vocalists, as wells as guest artist Scott Paddock.

Paddock is a Baltimore-based contemporary saxophonist with a notable list of television, movie and concert performances. He also provides private instruction to a number of saxophone students in the award-winning Marriotts Ridge bands. Go to scottpaddock.com to learn more.

Tickets cost $10 in advance or $12 at the door. To order tickets, email jazzattheridge@gmail.com, or call 410-313-5573 and leave a message.

April brings many secondhand sales to the area, but perhaps the longest-running is the Garage Sale Fundraiser at Frisky's Wildlife and Primate Sanctuary. All proceeds from the event, which is now in its 44th year, help fund the care and feeding of the animals at Frisky's.

If you have clothing, toys, housewares, furniture or other items that you would like to remove from your home, consider donating these tax-deductible items to the Sanctuary at 10790 Old Frederick Road (Route 99), in Woodstock.

The garage sale will open between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday during the month of April, and the stock will change continuously as donors bring new items.

Frisky's is a nonprofit organization that runs completely on donations and volunteers. Learn more about how to help at http://www.friskys.org.

Back by popular demand — the St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Knights of Columbus will offer mulch for sale on Saturday, March 29. The cost is $5 per bag for three cubic feet of brown or two cubic feet of black, and proceeds will benefit local charities.

Delivery is free for all orders of 15 bags or more within a 10-mile radius of the church. Customers can pick up smaller orders between 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Church, 10800 Old Court Road, Woodstock.

Call Ed Pelsinsky at 410-313-8808 to place an order.
