For an evening of fun and prizes, the Howard County 4-H All Stars will hold a Baskets, Bags, and Bucks Bingo on Friday, April 21, at the Mt. Airy Fireman's Activities Building on Twin Arch Road in Mt. Airy. Play begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. The Howard Chapel-Ridgeville United Methodist Church on Long Corner Road in Mt. Airy will hold its annual family-style dinner on Saturday, April 22. Main dishes include shrimp and roast beef with a variety of side dishes and desserts. Dinner will be served from 1 to 5 p.m. Adult dinners cost $18; children are $8 and carryouts $19. The Maryland Western Horse Show summer series begins on Sunday, April 23, at the Howard County Fairgrounds. This is a family-oriented series with classes for all age divisions and skill levels. Western, English and ranch-trained horses compete for ribbons and daily championships. Members earn points toward annual awards. The annual Western Howard County Relay for Life honoring those who have succumbed to cancer and survivors of cancer has found a new location. This year, it will be held at Jennings Chapel United Methodist Church on Jennings Chapel Road in Woodbine. This fundraiser for cancer prevention and treatment programs is Friday, June 2, from 6 to 11 p.m. It begins with the traditional Luminaria Lighting Ceremony followed by the survivors walk and then a community walk. Please join the committee for a wonderful, peace-filled community celebration and fundraiser . More details will be made available in a future edition.
Celebrate Holy Week and Easter with the parishioners at Calvary Lutheran Church on Old Frederick Road in Woodbine. For Maundy Thursday, April 13 at 1 p.m. and at 7 p.m. there will be a quiet communion service commemorating Jesus' last supper. Good Friday , April 14 at 7 p.m. a traditional Tenebrae service celebrating Christ's passion and death will be held. This is a traditional-style service. Easter Sunday at 9 a.m., there will be a contemporary service celebrating Christ's resurrection followed by a traditional service at 11 a.m. All are welcome.
