Stanwyck grew up poor, living in a series of foster homes, but she found her niche in acting. Her decades-long career in movies and television won her awards and acclaim.

"4-H Members Get Awards Tour
"4-H members Bruce Brendel of Ellicott city, Ronald Hutchinson of Bellevue, Leroy Sellman of Owings Mills and Donald Spies, Jr. of Easton were recipients of an awards tour, July 29-30, sponsored by the Maryland Turkey Producers' Association.
"Mr. J. O. Hardin, Maryland Poultry Extension Specialist, accompanied the four turkey project winners on the tour of turkey growing, hatching, and processing in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The group also did some sightseeing on Skyline Drive."
From the "What's Doing" column:
"Miss Barbara Cupples of Northern Ireland has been the house guest for several days of Miss Sandra Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Shelton Moore, 7 Tyson road, Chestnut Hill Estates. Miss Couples is with a group of thirty-six young adults from England, Ireland and Scotland on a six weeks exchange program with the Presbyterian Churches of the British Isles and America.
"The group attended a conference at Purdue University, Indiana.
"Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kittleman and family of Dellwood Avenue spent the last ten days in Creston, Iowa, where they visited Mr. Kittleman's parents, Judge and Mrs. Harvey Kittleman and in Sharon, Pennsylvania, where they visited Mrs. Kittleman's father, Mr. Charles H. Hyde.
"Mrs. Robert R. Mealy of Font Hill Drive recently entertained at a coffee in honor of Mrs. Kenneth Barnes, Mrs. Arthur Connor and Mrs. Charles Love. Mrs. Love and Mrs. Connor are moving from Font Hill Manor, and Mrs. Barnes will be a new resident there.
"Mr. and Mrs. Fred Menke, formerly of MacAlpine Road, were honored at a house warming at their new home, Fair Winds, in Severna Park. Twenty-five couples, bearing supper as well as a silver candelabra gift, converged on the new Menke household Sunday afternoon for the surprise party."
It must have been some house. Can you imagine having 50 people "converge" on your house. And I'm doubting the "surprise" part, with that many guest involved. I bet someone spilled those beans.
